Visual distortions
This self-directed project delves into the complex issues of censorship, misinformation, and digital corruption in the online world. The exploration focuses on how glitches and manipulated data can fundamentally alter and distort visual information. The primary technique used was JPEG file text editing, a process that intentionally corrupts image data to produce unpredictable and often unsettling visual distortions, specifically applied to portrait images. These digitally manipulated visuals were then translated into physical form through screen printing. This printing process, with its inherent inconsistencies and textural qualities, further emphasised the distortions and imperfections, adding another layer of tangible corruption to the already altered images. The project aims to visually represent the fragility of online information and how easily it can be manipulated, corrupted, and ultimately, misrepresented.
